The Challenge

Rotary devices such as fans, impellers, and pumps have changed very little since they were first designed. Water storage tanks use rotary devices to consistently mix their fluids, to help protect against thermal stratification. Over time, this uses large amounts of energy and can be very noisy.

Innovation Details

PAX Water Mixers create a powerful vortex flow pattern inside water storage tanks to circulate the entire volume. The shape of the propellor replicates the spiral flow pattern found in nature to improve performance and energy usage in mixing water storage tanks. Even though the mixer is only 8 inches (21 cm) tall, it is capable of circulating millions of gallons of water with the same energy footprint as three 100-watt light bulbs.
