1) Typical, polygonally shaped toe pad cells with free apices from the surface of the digital pad. 2) Sloughing outer cell layer from toe pad. 3) Corner of a pad cell facing a mucous pore. Round plaques cover the upper surface (top). The normal, striated side of the cell not facing the pore (lower right) contrasts with the granulated appearance of the side facing the pore lumen (lower left). 4) Outer layer of pad cells. 5) Normal squamous epithelium. 6) Side view o fa sloughing cuboidal cell layer from the under surface of the toe.
